A Peak into my life

Just a little about me and my life:

When I was four years old I knew I wanted to sing.  It was just always there.  By the time I was in my early teens I was performing on TV and in local productions.

Through the years I have sung in all genre's of music and that lead to my interest in being a songwriter.  I have also written two musicals and still keep my hand in drama, which is aslo a form of the arts that I love. Currently I am involved with Center Stage North, a wonderful community theater.  I won the award for best newcomer last year and am directing my first comedy "Wife Begins At Forty" in Ocotober.  Check the website for details.  Have also written the theme song for the play, as well executed the "horrible sculpture" and a quite bizzare painting.  I just might auction them off at our annual event.

I also teach drama at Richards Christian Academy where six of the children attend school.  We are putting on our first musical as the "Lighthouse Theater Company" in December this year at the "Art Place" situated on Sandy Plains Road.

The family

These days it is not common to find large families and I for one did not think I would have one this large, but every one of them is a joy and a blessing.  I have written a book about our adventures in fostering and adopting.  It is available at http://www.amazon.com or at http://www.booksurge.com . It is called " Is Eight Enough (God knows and He aint telling)"  It is currently being revised and re-published along with my cd "The Adoption Thing" and should be available with the cd shortly.  It is still available on it's own.

In the last year we added two children from a busted adoption. These children originally hailed from an orphanage in Liberia.  I am writing a blog called Life with 14 kids, http://theadoptionthing.blogspot.com which I believe will become my next book "Finding Isaiah".

I have also written a book along with my husband Roger, and authors Ken Blanchard (The One Minute Manager) and Stephen Covey (The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People) Please contact me by email at kate@theadoptionthing.org  for a copy.

My other passion!

I have a very large family! I have adopted 10 children from abusive situations including 3 sets of twins.  They joined my grown up 4 children to make the number now 14! Our favouite movie is of course "Cheaper by the Dozen" but no it is not cheaper! Christmas is amazing and family dinners can include at least 2 grown up children and a couple of grandchildren!  Yes thank the Lord I can cook!

My influences

Singers: Dolly Parton of course, Linda Rhondstat, Barbara Streisand

some great bands like the Beatles, Heart, Abba, and then just about all musicals

Songwriters I respect:  Of course Dolly, then Sir Elton John, Billy Joel, and more recently Rivers Rutherford, Hugh Beresford and Wendell Mobley
